An RNLI lifeboat at Portpatrick, which was funded through a generous bequest, has had its official naming ceremony in honour of its benefactor’s husband, reports the Galloway Gazette.
Kitty Barr, who died in 2008, left a £2.6 million bequest in her will to the RNLI, with the request that it be used to fund a new lifeboat for use in Scottish waters.
Her will instructed that the boat be named after her husband, John Buchanan Barr, who had died in 2003. The couple had taken many holidays in Ayrshire, and were particularly fond of Portpatrick.
