Orange Coast College (OCC) in California has received a bequest of $480,000, which is apparently the largest unrestricted bequest in history of the college’s Foundation.
The gift was left in the will of Ruth Miller, who made the bequest to honour the memory of her late husband, Matt Miller. She also left bequests in her Will to Hoag Hospital Foundation and the CHOC Foundation.
The college has announced that it will dedicate its 2014 Honours Night Scholarship Book to Ruth and Matt Miller, who pursued his love of music during retirement by taking a series of chorale and piano classes at Orange Coast College.
OCC Foundation Director Doug Bennett said the college will develop an endowment plan that will likely fund music and chorale scholarships, pending approval by the OCC Foundation Board of Directors. The OCC Music Department will also honour the Millers in a special concert in the fall.
